YONKERS, NY – After concluding non-conference play with a 6-0 victory over Medgar Evers on Monday, the Maritime College men's soccer team resumed its Skyline Conference schedule with a five-goal output on Saturday night. The Privateers (7-3-2, 2-3-2 Skyline) knocked off Sarah Lawrence (4-7-3, 1-5-1 Skyline) by a 5-0 count at Fleming Field for their fifth clean sheet of the season and their first conference road win in four years (not counting a Mount St. Vincent forfeit in 2023).
Chris Vazquez (Woodhaven, NY) got the scoring started early, finding the back of the net in the fourth minute. Maritime then added to its lead late in the first half when the Gryphons were whistled for a foul in the box and
Jude Callan (Centerport, NY) stepped up to take the penalty kick. He put it home to give the Privateers a 2-0 halftime advantage.
Jeferson Blanco (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) made it 3-0 with a 54
th-minute tally before scoring again in the 63
rd minute. In the 75
th minute, a pair of freshmen connected for Maritime's fifth goal of the contest.
Carson Sadler (Gilford, NH) connected with
Edward Flores Medina (Huntington Station, NY), who notched his first career tally. The 5-0 triumph was the Privateers' first victory in a conference road game since a 1-0 win at Old Westbury on Oct. 16, 2021.
Blanco scored twice for the second straight contest, and Callan has also found the back of the net in back-to-back outings. All three of Vazquez's goals this season, meanwhile, are game-winners. He was also credited with his third assist of the year, which tied Salder for the team lead.
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (7-3-2) played the first 81 minutes in goal and earned the win. He made three saves before being relieved by
Louis Luparello (North Bellmore, NY). Sarah Lawrence starting goalkeeper Jonah Zalis (2-4-2) made seven saves over 76 minutes in a losing effort.
With the win, the Privateers are now just one point behind Mount St. Mary and Old Westbury for sixth place and the final spot in the Skyline Tournament. Maritime is off until next Saturday, when it visits Manhattanville (6-8-1, 4-2-1 Skyline) at 3 p.m.
