PURCHASE, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team visited defending Skyline Conference champion Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon. A 67
th-minute goal proved to be the difference, as the Valiants (7-8-1, 5-2-1 Skyline) earned a 1-0 victory over the Privateers (7-4-2, 2-4-2 Skyline) at GoValiants.com Field. The loss snapped Maritime's two-game winning streak.
Manhattanville outshot the Privateers 12-2 in the first half, but
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) did his part to keep the game scoreless with three saves. In the 67
th minute, the Valiants snuck one past Lebron. Guido Sarango sent a cross into the box, and Kenau Stingone put it home to give Manhattanville a 1-0 lead.
Maritime had a chance to tie it in the 85
th minute.
PJ Kakalos (Merrick, NY) had his attempt saved by AJ Lucas and go out for a corner kick.
Jeferson Blanco (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) took the corner kick and found Kakalos. His header was off the mark, though. Kakalos finished with three of the Privateers' six shots in the contest.
Lebron (7-4-2) made five saves in the losing effort. Lucas (7-8-1), meanwhile, was credited with two saves while notching his fifth shutout of the season
On Wednesday, Maritime begins its final homestand of the season by welcoming Mount St. Mary (5-4-6, 2-2-4 Skyline) to Reinhart Field for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Privateers currently trail the Knights by two points for the final spot in the Skyline Tournament.
