THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team returned to Reinhart Field on Wednesday night for a Skyline Conference matchup with Mount St. Mary. After a back-and-forth game, the Privateers (7-4-3, 2-4-3 Skyline) and Knights (5-4-7, 2-2-5 Skyline) finished in a 2-2 draw.
Mount St. Mary got on the board first in the 22
nd minute. Ryan Kieser took a half volley from the right side of the box and put it past
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Maritime responded in the 34
th minute when
Jeferson Blanco (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) threaded his way through the Mount St. Mary defense to even the score.
In the 41
st minute,
Chris Vazquez (Woodhaven, NY) sent a low roller into the box that
Finn Richmond (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) finished for a 2-1 Privateers lead. That one-goal advantage would only last one minute, however. After a free kick, the Knights' Jeremy Burgos ran down the right side and fed Jack Hoffman, who recorded the equalizer.
Both teams had several strong scoring chances in the second half. Maritime earned six corner kicks in the final 45 minutes and fired seven shots on net. Mount St. Mary goalkeeper Noah Horn stopped them all, though. Lebron did his part, as well, making four second-half saves to preserve the 2-2 tie.
Blanco's goal was his fifth in the Privateers' last four games. Richmond, meanwhile, found the back of the net for the first time since the season opener. Lebron (7-4-3) was credited with six saves overall. Horn (5-4-7) tallied eight saves for the Knights.
Maritime wraps up its home schedule on Saturday against St. Joseph's Brooklyn (1-12-1, 1-7-1 Skyline). The Privateers will honor their senior class prior to the 5 p.m. contest.
