Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Privateers Stopped By Old Westbury

OLD WESTBURY, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team visited Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.  The Privateers (5-3-2, 1-3-2 Skyline) outshot the Panthers 23-13, including a 13-9 edge in shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to Old Westbury (4-6-0, 2-3-0 Skyline) at Panther Park.

A Panthers yellow card set up a pair of Maritime scoring chances late in the first half.  However, Old Westbury goalkeeper Vedant Sortur stopped both Carson Sadler (Gilford, NH) and PJ Kakalos (Merrick, NY), keeping the game scoreless.

It would remain that way until the 61st minute, when the Panthers got on the board.  Isaac Cardenas set up Henrik Ropstad, who put away his 10th goal of the season.  Sortur did his part to preserve the 1-0 lead, making seven second-half saves.  Johan Gran then iced the victory for Old Westbury with a goal in the final minute.

Jude Callan (Centerport, NY) led the Privateers with five shots and three shots on goal, while Jonathan Toma (Massapequa, NY) and Jack Young (Floral Park, NY) each put two shots on net.  Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (5-3-2) recorded seven saves in the losing effort.  Sortur (1-0-0), in his first collegiate start, was credited with 13 saves for the Panthers.

Maritime returns home on Monday to face Medgar Evers (1-7-1) at 7 p.m.  It will be the Privateers' final non-conference game of the season.
