BRONX, NY – The Maritime College men's swimming & diving team had a dominant showing in its dual meet at Lehman on Thursday. The Privateers won 12 of 13 events in a 144-26 triumph over the Lightning at the APEX Swimming Pool. On the women's side, Maritime dropped a tight 78-75 decision to Lehman.
Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY),
Matt Klimek (Malverne, NY) and
Alex Osypenko (Oyster Bay, NY) each earned a pair of individual wins. Hayes was first in the 100 yard freestyle (50.41) and 200 yard individual medley (2:07.52), while Klimek grabbed first place in the 200 yard freestyle (1:57.27) and 500 yard freestyle (5:37.20). Osypenko's victories came in the 50 yard freestyle (23.25) and 100 yard butterfly (58.72). The trio also teamed with
Johnny Walz (Staten Island, NY) to post a winning time of 1:53.04 in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Maritime's other individual winners were
Hunter Hesser-Mawson (Tucson, AZ) in the 1000 yard freestyle (14:24.88) and
Victor Pineda (Bronx, NY) in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.45). The quartet of
Alex Anastasiades (Rockaway Beach, NY),
Liam MacManus (Islip, NY), Pineda and Osypenko, meanwhile, capped the meet by taking first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a 1:36.89 clocking.
In the women's meet, the Privateers recorded six event wins.
Oceana Elefante (Sayville, NY) led the way with individual victories in both the 100 freestyle (1:04.89) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:25.96).
Rebecca Kmiotek's (Lindenhurst, NY) time of 2:51.34 was good for first place in the 200 freestyle, and
Kristen Carroll (New York, NY) grabbed the win in the 50 freestyle (28.20).
Emily Bryant (Hilliard, OH), meanwhile, took first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 16:21.43.
Kmiotek and Bryant were also on the victorious 200 freestyle relay squad. They joined with
Kirsten Argueta (Englewood, NJ) and
Madeline Powers (Atlantic Beach, NY) to post a 2:13.11 clocking. However, Lehman's second-place finish in the event was enough to give the Lightning a three-point win, 78-75.
On Wednesday, Maritime opens its home schedule by welcoming Baruch to the Riesenberg Aquatics Center. The first event gets underway at 6 p.m.
