BRONXVILLE, NY – On Saturday, the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams began the 2025-26 campaign with a quad meet at Sarah Lawrence. The Privateer men defeated both Bard and the host Gryphons while falling to Merchant Marine. The Maritime women, meanwhile, earned a win over Bard and were topped by Sarah Lawrence and Merchant Marine.
Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY) had a pair of first-place finishes in the 100 yard butterfly (54.11) and 100 yard breaststroke (58.05). He also swam the second leg on the 200 yard medley relay squad that placed second in 1:51.98. Joining Hayes on the relay were
Victor Pineda (Bronx, NY),
Parker Endress (Hamburg, NY) and
Alex Osypenko (Oyster Bay, NY).
Individually, Pineda captured third place in both the 200 yard freestyle (2:07.28) and 100 backstroke (1:10.13). Osypenko finished second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:15.70), and
Matt Klimek (Malverne, NY) grabbed second place in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:06.07) and 100 yard freestyle (52.73). The Privateers added a second-place showing in the 200 yard freestyle relay, with the quartet of Osypenko,
Liam MacManus (Islip, NY),
Ryan Colombo (Cortland Manor, NY) and Klimek recording a time of 1:38.12.
Maritime defeated Sarah Lawrence by a score of 123-40 and topped Bard 145-12. Against Merchant Marine, the Privateers fell by a 108-76 count.
The women's squad notched a 71-25 victory over Bard in the dual-meet scoring. Maritime dropped a 143-19 decision against Sarah Lawrence while suffering a 155-24 loss to Merchant Marine.
Oceana Elefante (Sayville, NY) led the Privateers with seventh-place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle (28.33) and 100 yard freestyle (1:04.06).
Kristen Carroll took sixth in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:49.90) and
Kirsten Argueta (Englewood, NJ) had a seventh-place showing in the 100 yard backstroke (1:35.92). In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of
Renee Kelly (Queens, NY),
Joan Anastasiades (Rockaway Beach, NY),
Alexa Nolan (Queens, NY) and
Rebecca Kmiotek (Lindenhurst, NY) captured third place with a time of 2:16.06.
Up next for the Privateers is a 6 p.m. dual meet at Lehman on Thursday.
