WORCESTER, MA – The Maritime College football team is heading into its bye week on a three-game winning streak. The Privateers (5-3, 3-2 New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference) scored touchdowns on each of their first three drives in a 28-7 victory at WPI (2-5, 1-3 NEWMAC) at H. Carr Field on Saturday.
Maritime received the opening kickoff and proceeded to drive 65 yards in 11 plays for the game's first score.
Mark Russo (Sea Cliff, NY) capped the march with a 1-yard TD run. After the Engineers were stopped on a 4
th-and-3 from the Privateers' 39, Maritime put together a nine-play touchdown drive.

Nate Casaburi (Sayville, NY) from six yards out to give the Privateers a 14-0 lead.
WPI went three-and-out on its next possession, and Maritime took over at its own 29 with 42 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Privateers would keep the ball for more than eight minutes, moving 71 yards in 15 plays. With 7:27 left in the second quarter, Pickett connected with Casaburi on a 1-yard scoring strike that made it 21-0. After the teams traded punts, the Engineers got to the Maritime 28 on their next drive. However,
Jack Kellner (Seaford, NY) intercepted Jack Schuck's pass with five seconds left until halftime, preserving the 21-0 advantage.
On their first possession of the second half, the Privateers went on another long, time-consuming drive. Maritime traveled 70 yards in 16 plays, taking nearly nine minutes off the clock.
Joshua Rogers (Valley Stream, NY) scampered into the end zone on 2
nd-and-goal from the WPI 7 to increase the Privateers' cushion to 28-0.
With 1:36 left in the third quarter, the Engineers got on the board when Schuck threw a 7-yard TD pass to Jeff Quigley. It was the first score against the Maritime defense in nearly 10 quarters. The Privateers hadn't allowed a touchdown since the first quarter of the Merchant Marine game on Oct. 11. Maritime outscored its opponents 104-0 during that span.
Pickett finished 21-for-29 for 174 yards and the two touchdown passes to Casaburi. He was also the Privateers' leading rusher with 46 yards on the ground. Rogers tallied 45 rushing yards on 15 carries, while Casaburi recorded a team-high eight catches for 76 yards and two scores. Kellner paced the defense with six tackles to go along with his second INT of the year.
Gino Fundaro (Levittown, NY), meanwhile, made four tackles, two of which went for losses, including a 10-yard sack. He added two quarterback hurries.
For WPI, Schuck was 23-for-44 for 244 yards and a touchdown. Michael Krevosky had five catches for 74 yards, while Ty Csencsits also recorded five receptions. In addition to making four catches for 20 yards and a score, Quigley led the Engineers with 22 rushing yards. As a team, WPI was held to just 24 yards on the ground. Patrick Andrews notched a game-high seven tackles, and Jake Robertson contributed six stops.
After playing on eight consecutive weeks to start the season, Maritime gets next weekend off before returning to action against MIT (3-3, 1-3 NEWMAC) on Saturday, Nov. 8. It will be the Privateers' final home game of the season, and the senior class will be honored prior to the 12 p.m. contest.
