Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Maritime Edged By Manhattanville

PURCHASE, NY – Three days after notching a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Farmingdale, the Maritime College men's soccer team visited defending Skyline Conference champion Manhattanville on Saturday.  Jeferson Blanco (New York, NY) tied the game in the 65th minute, but the Valiants' Jostyn Blanco scored twice in the final 12 minutes to give Manhattanville (4-4-1, 2-0-0 Skyline) a 3-1 victory over the Privateers (3-2-2, 0-1-1 Skyline) at GoValiants.com Field.

The Valiants took advantage of a miscue by the Maritime defense to open the scoring just over two minutes into the contest.  It would remain that way until the 65th minute, when Blanco netted the equalizer.  However, Jostyn Blanco gave the lead back to Manhattanville in the 79th minute.  He was fouled in the box and put away the penalty kick to put the Valiants in front.  His second goal of the game nine minutes later increased Manhattanville's advantage to 3-1.

Despite putting five shots on goal in the second half, the Privateers were unable to get another one past Luis Granados, and the Valiants held on for the win.  Granados (4-1-1) finished with nine saves overall.  Mason Chetti scored Maritime's first goal off an assist by Keanu Stingone, while Lucas Fernandez recorded an assist on the Valiants' final tally.

Jeferson Blanco's goal was his second in as many games.  Maritime goalkeeper Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (3-2-2), meanwhile, made three saves in a losing effort.

On Tuesday, the Privateers return home for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with Mount St. Mary (3-2-1, 0-1-1 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.
