Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Privateers Complete Unbeaten Homestand

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team began the season with four straight home games.  In those 360 minutes, the Privateers didn't concede a goal.  Maritime (3-0-1) wrapped up the homestand with its third consecutive win and fourth straight shutout, a 3-0 triumph over Pratt (0-3-1) at Reinhart Field on Tuesday.

After the Privateers had several early scoring chances, Maritime finally broke through in the waning seconds of the first half.  With 16 seconds remaining until halftime, George Kanellopoulos (Bayside, NY) sent a low ball into the center of the box that Jonathan Toma (Massapequa, NY) put away for his first collegiate goal.

Maritime added two more tallies in the second half.  In the 58th minute, Jake Rodriguez (Nanuet, NY) found an opening in the middle of the box and put home a feed from Jude Callan (Centerport, NY) to make it a 2-0 game.  Alex Arriola (Bronx, NY) increased that advantage to 3-0 in the 72nd minute, when he took a pass from Chris Vazquez (Woodhaven, NY) and beat the keeper on the left side from 18 yards out.

Pratt had one last opportunity in the 89th minute.  Diego Pina took a cross and headed it towards the left corner of the net.  However, Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) made a full extension stop to preserve the clean sheet, his fourth in a row.  Lebron (3-0-1) finished with four saves in the victory, while three different goalkeepers saw action for Pratt.  Carter Tillman (0-3-0) played the first half and took the loss.  He had three saves and surrendered one goal.  Dimitris Papagiannakopoulos gave up two goals in 31 minutes before Anil Pugh finished up with 14 minutes in net.

This marks the first time in at least 20 years that Maritime has shut out four straight opponents (complete records only go back to 2004), as well as the Privateers' first three-game winning streak since 2019.  Maritime also matched last year's win total with the victory.

On Friday, the Privateers hit the road for the first time this season when they visit Centenary (1-2-0) at 4 p.m.  It will be Maritime's final game before the start of Skyline Conference play.
