Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Centenary Snaps Maritime’s Winning Streak

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ – After opening the 2024 season with four consecutive shutouts, the Maritime College men's soccer team saw that run come to an end on Friday at Centenary.  The Privateers (3-1-1) also had their three-game winning streak snapped, as the Cyclones (2-3-0) came away with a 1-0 victory at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field.

The first goal conceded by Maritime this season came in the Privateers' 362nd minute of action.  Rich O'Brien took a feed from Sean Quinones and snuck it past Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) just 93 seconds into the contest.  It was still 1-0 in the 43rd minute, when Lebron stopped Ohene Yiadom's attempt.  Lebron (3-1-1) faced just five shots in the game and was credited with one save.

Maritime outshot Centenary 9-5, but only put one of those shots on target.  Alex Arriola's (Bronx, NY) chance was saved in the 73rd minute, while PJ Kakalos (Merrick, NY) saw his attempt blocked five minutes later.  That would prove to be the Privateers' last scoring chance, as the Cyclones held on for the 1-0 win.

Centenary goalkeeper Kevin Velasquez Mejia (2-3-0) made one save in the winning effort.  O'Brien's goal, meanwhile, was his first of the season.

This was Maritime's final game before the start of conference play.  The Privateers (0-0-0 Skyline) begin their Skyline schedule by welcoming Farmingdale (1-3-1, 0-0-0 Skyline) to Reinhart Field at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
