THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College baseball team led all of Division III in scoring during the 2024 season.  The final NCAA statistics have been released, and the Privateers' 10.3 runs per game were the most in the nation.  Maritime tallied a school-record 401 runs in 39 games.  The Privateers also ranked second nationally in home runs per game (2.03) and slugging percentage (.582) while finishing tied for third in total home runs (79).

Maritime scored 10 or more runs 18 times, including a program-record 38 against Lehman on April 24, and was not shut out all season.  Despite playing only 39 contests (the fewest among the national leaders), the Privateers were still 19th in Division III with 401 runs scored.  Maritime's average of 10.282 runs per game was just ahead of second-place Union's 10.268 runs per contest (421 runs in 41 games) for the top spot.

In addition, the Privateers finished second behind Johns Hopkins in home runs per game and slugging percentage.  Johns Hopkins belted 2.20 home runs per contest while slugging .586.  After briefly leading the nation in home runs, Maritime ended up in a tie for third place with national runner-up Wisconsin-Whitewater, trailing only Johns Hopkins (101) and Wisconsin-La Crosse (81).

"I'm super proud of the team and how it competed this season," Head Coach Charlie Barbieri said.  "To be in the top 10 nationally in multiple statistical categories is a direct reflection of the relentless effort put in each and every day.  Whether it was in the weight room or on the field, our players' work ethic was incredible to watch."

First Team All-American Freddy Forgione (Ronkonkoma, NY), meanwhile, was second in home runs per game (0.54), and his 21 total home runs were tied for the second-most nationally.  Pacific (OR)'s CJ Colyer hit 23 homers in 41 contests (an average of 0.56 per game) to lead Division III in both categories, while North Carolina Wesleyan's Tyson Bass also belted 21 home runs this season.  Forgione also placed sixth in slugging percentage (.879), seventh in RBIs per game (1.59) and ninth in total bases (138).

Brandon Stanley (Trinity, FL) ranked among the Top 10 in two pitching statistics.  He issued only six walks in 59.2 innings pitched, an average of 0.91 per nine innings, the third-lowest in the country.  Stanley's strikeout-to-walk ratio of 8.50 was the fourth-best among all qualified Division III pitchers.
