Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

St. Joseph’s LI Spoils Senior Night

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team celebrated its seniors before Wednesday's game against St. Joseph's LI.  The seniors then helped the Privateers jump out to a 10-5 lead early in the third quarter.  However, the Golden Eagles (8-4, 6-1 Skyline) responded with 10 straight goals to pull in front before holding off Maritime's comeback effort in a 19-14 victory over the Privateers (8-4, 5-2 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.

After St. Joseph's LI went up 15-10, Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) snapped the Golden Eagles' scoring run with 7:00 remaining in the contest.  Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) found the back of the net 15 seconds later, then assisted on Tori Gay's (Whiteford, MD) tally at the 4:48 mark to brought Maritime within 15-13.  Nicolosi made it a one-goal game 46 seconds later.  The Privateers would get no closer, though, as St. Joseph's LI ended the game on a 4-0 spurt to notch a 19-14 win.

Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY) led Maritime with four goals, and she added an assist.  She also tallied four ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers.  Nicolosi finished with three goals and three assists, while Gay and Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton-on-Hudson, NY) both had two goals and an assist.  Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY) posted team-highs with five ground balls and eight draw controls to go along with three caused turnovers.  Emily Commodore (Tinton Falls, NJ), the fifth senior honored, collected three ground balls and scored a goal.  Goalkeeper Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (8-4), meanwhile, made 10 saves.

It was a 4-3 game after the first quarter, but the Privateers started the second quarter with four tallies in a 3:35 span to open up an 8-3 advantage.  After St. Joseph's LI trimmed its deficit to 9-5 at halftime, Nicolosi put one home at the 11:04 mark of the third quarter.  The Golden Eagles ended the quarter with seven straight goals, though, to take a 12-10 lead before rattling off three more to start the fourth quarter.

Kaitlyn Ippolito had four goals and an assist for St. Joseph's LI.  She also tallied six draw controls and three ground balls.  Sabrina Doyle scored four times, while Jamie Trowbridge notched three goals and an assist to go along with four ground balls and three draw controls.  Emily O'Mara finished with two goals, three assists and seven caused turnovers, and Julia Stolba tallied four points on two goals and two assists.  Maggie Harding (7-2) was credited with 11 saves for the Golden Eagles.

Maritime has one game remaining in the regular season.  The Privateers visit Mount St. Mary (9-5, 4-3 Skyline) at 12 p.m. on Saturday.  With a win, Maritime will clinch at least the No. 4 seed and a home game in the Skyline Tournament.
