OLD WESTBURY, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team scored the first eight goals of the game and never looked back on Saturday afternoon. The Privateers (9-3, 6-1 Skyline) built a 16-2 lead at halftime before adding three third-quarter tallies in a 19-2 win over Old Westbury (1-10, 0-7 Skyline) at Panther Park.
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) found the back of the net just 27 seconds into the contest, and she had six points in the first quarter. After Nicolosi assisted on
Jenna Lesiewicz's (Wading River, NY) goal that made it 8-0, Sarah Boubert put Old Westbury on the board. Boubert scored again with one minute left in the period, but
Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) responded with her fourth goal of the quarter to put the Privateers in front 10-2.
Tracy scored again at the 12:22 mark of the second quarter, and she added a sixth tally with 4:40 remaining until halftime.
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) then made it 16-2 Maritime at the break. In the third quarter,
Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton-On-Hudson, NY) had a hand in all three of the Privateers' goals, putting one home with 10:20 to go before assisting on the scores by
Emily Commodore (Tinton Falls, NJ) and
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) that increased the lead to 19-2.
Jillson Neuwirth finished with six assists and seven points in the game. All six of Tracy's shots on goal ended up in the net, and she added six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Nicolosi tallied eight points on four goals and four assists, while Lesiewicz registered three goals, three ground balls and four draw controls.
Maritime shut out Old Westbury over the final 46 minutes and held a 40-17 edge in ground balls. Cirelli and Commodore each picked up four ground balls, while
Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY) contributed four ground balls and seven draw controls. Goalkeeper
Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (8-3) was credited with six saves in the win.
In addition to recording both Old Westbury goals, Boubert controlled three draws. Isabella Recine also had three draw controls. Ava Savino, meanwhile, led the Panthers with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kathleen Mackey (1-10) made 11 saves in the first half before being relieved by Jara Gonzalez, who stopped one shot.
On Wednesday, Maritime concludes its home schedule by welcoming St. Joseph's LI (7-4, 5-1 Skyline) to Reinhart Field for a 5:30 p.m. contest. Prior to the game, the Privateers will honor their graduating seniors.
