PURCHASE, NY – The Maritime College men's lacrosse team scored 12 seconds into its game at Purchase on Saturday afternoon and never looked back. The Privateers (7-5, 3-1 Skyline) led 17-0 at halftime and had a 20-0 advantage before the Panthers (3-8, 0-3 Skyline) notched a pair of late tallies in Maritime's 20-2 victory at the Purchase College Turf Field.
Kieran Hendry (East Northport, NY) notched that early goal, then
Connor Tomich (Sayville, NY) and
Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) followed with two each.
Charles Gerace (Rocky Point, NY) made it 7-0 with two seconds left in the first quarter, and Maritime added 10 more tallies in the second quarter. Reilly found the back of the net four times in the period, while Tomich and Gerace both scored twice, as the Privateers extended their advantage to 17-0.
In the third quarter, Maritime got goals from Tomich and
Luke Caliendo (North Babylon, NY) before
Francis McGreal (Pawling, NY) notched his first collegiate tally. Ryan Lubowitz put Purchase on the board with a man-up score at the 3:23 mark of the third quarter, and the Panthers posted the only goal of the fourth quarter in the Privateers' 20-2 victory.
Reilly finished with six goals, while Tomich had seven points on five goals and two assists. In addition to tallying three goals, Gerace handed out two assists. Hendry collected 12 ground balls and caused three turnovers to go along with his goal, and
Joseph Bruno (East Islip, NY) picked up 11 ground balls after going 18-for-19 on faceoffs. As a team, Maritime held a 46-18 advantage on ground balls and won 21-of-25 faceoffs. All four of the Privateers' goalkeepers saw action, with
Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (1-1) getting the start and earning the win. He made four saves.
Lubowitz scored one of Purchase's goals, and he also paced the Panthers with three ground balls. Shakim Carr gathered two ground balls and was credited with three caused turnovers. Starting goalkeeper Will Boes (3-6) posted eight saves and took the loss, while Sam Erlich came off the bench and stopped 11 Maritime shots.
After playing eight out of 10 on the road, the Privateers return to Reinhart Field for their next two contests. Maritime takes on Mount St. Vincent (5-6, 1-2 Skyline) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the second game of a lacrosse doubleheader. The Maritime-Mount St. Vincent women's game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
