Maritime Knocks Off Coast Guard For Second Straight Season

NEW LONDON, CT – Last year, the Maritime College men's lacrosse team earned its first-ever win over a nationally-ranked opponent by beating Coast Guard at Reinhart Field.  This season, the Privateers (3-2) beat the Bears (1-3) again, using an eight-goal second quarter to post a 13-7 victory in a driving rain at Cadet Memorial Field.

Coast Guard scored the first two goals of the game before Jack Louer (Clifton, NJ) and Ryan Brice (Wall, NJ) found the back of the net to tie it at 2-2 after one quarter.  That started a string of nine straight tallies for the Privateers, as Maritime built a 9-2 lead.  After Eric Key snapped the scoring run, Louer added another score with 12 seconds left until halftime to give the Privateers a 10-3 advantage at the break.

After Coast Guard opened the scoring in the third quarter, Patrick Schnell (Jericho, NY) scored twice to increase Maritime's cushion to 12-4.  Despite being outscored 3-1 in the fourth quarter, the Privateers snapped their two-game losing streak with a 13-7 win.

Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) had his fourth hat trick in five games this season.  He added an assist.  Brice, meanwhile, tallied five points with two goals and three assists.  Schnell finished with two goals and an assist, and Louer also found the back of the net twice.  Joseph Bruno (East Islip, NY) went 18-for-23 on faceoffs and collected five ground balls, as Maritime held a 23-12 edge in that category.  Kieran Hendry (East Northport, NY) was credited with three caused turnovers, while goalkeeper Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY) (3-2) made six saves in the victory.

Key led the Bears offensively with two goals and an assist.  Ian Feely also scored twice, and Ryan Hunter tallied three points on a goal and two assists.  Matt Reheuser (1-3) got the start in net and recorded seven saves.  Dustin Miller relieved Reheuser at halftime and held Maritime to three goals while notching nine saves.

The Privateers now have a week off before returning to action.  Maritime wraps up a string of four straight road games with a 5 p.m. matchup at Montclair State (2-0) next Wednesday.
