Privateers Cap Road Swing With 14-9 Triumph at Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, NJ – After the Maritime College men's lacrosse team took an early 3-1 lead, Montclair State scored two straight goals to tie the game early in the second quarter on Wednesday night.  The Privateers (4-2) responded with eight straight tallies, though, to build an 11-3 cushion in an eventual 14-9 victory over the Red Hawks (2-2) at Sprague Field.

Jack Meyers (Rocky Point, NY), Thomas Kennedy (Orangeburg, NY) and Ryan Grider (Oak Ridge, NJ) notched first quarter goals for Maritime before Montclair State's Jack Cleary scored twice in the first 3:20 of the second quarter to force a 3-3 deadlock.  Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) put the Privateers back in front with an unassisted score at the 9:56 mark, igniting the 8-0 run.  Nick LiPuma (Bayport, NY) capped the spurt with 8:45 remaining in the third quarter.

Montclair State responded with six of the next seven goals, however, to pull within three at 12-9 with 9:52 left in the contest.  After Reilly once again made it a four-goal margin, he assisted on Jack Louer's (Clifton, NJ) man-up tally with 3:14 to go.  The Red Hawks fired five shots over the final 3:14, but were unable to find the back of the net, and Maritime wrapped up its four-game road trip with its second straight victory.

Reilly had seven points in the contest, finishing with four goals and three assists.  Louer and Meyers each scored twice, while Patrick Schnell (Jericho, NY) tallied three points on a goal and two assists.  Kieran Hendry (East Northport, NY) collected a game-high eight ground balls and Luke Caliendo (North Babylon, NY) added five ground balls, as Maritime held a 35-26 edge in that category.  Brody Smith (Rehoboth Beach, DE), meanwhile, caused four turnovers.  Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY) (4-2) registered 15 saves in the winning effort.

Cleary scored three times for the Red Hawks.  Ryan Vierbuchen also had three points on a goal and two assists, and John Crank found the back of the net twice.  Lucas Novack paced Montclair State with five ground balls.  Brandon Shevins (1-2) took the loss despite making 15 saves.

The Privateers return home for the only time in a seven-game span on Saturday, when Geneseo (3-2) makes its annual visit to Reinhart Field for a 12 p.m. matchup.
