Maritime Drops Non-Conference Finale

OWINGS MILLS, MD – On Wednesday afternoon, the Maritime College women's lacrosse team wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a visit to Stevenson.  The Mustangs (4-4) scored the first seven goals of the game en route to a 20-10 victory over the Privateers (3-2) at Mustang Stadium.

After Stevenson jumped out to a 7-0 lead, Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) and Emily Commodore (Tinton Falls, NJ) scored to pull Maritime within 7-2 at the end of the first quarter.  Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) netted the first tally of the second quarter before the Mustangs used another 7-0 run to extend their advantage to 14-3 at halftime.

Maritime outscored Stevenson 3-2 in the third quarter, then trimmed its deficit to 16-7 when Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY) found the back of the net early in the fourth quarter.  That goal started a 4-2 spurt for the Privateers that made it an 18-10 game.  The Mustangs scored twice in the final two minutes to notch a 20-10 win.

Commodore and Tracy each posted a hat trick for the Privateers.  Tracy also paced the squad with three ground balls and five draw controls.  Lesiewicz had three points on a goal and two assists, while Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) handed out four assists to go along with a goal.  Goalkeeper Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) (3-2) was credited with 14 saves.

For Stevenson, Kara Yarusso led the way with six goals, three assists, five ground balls and four draw controls.  Isabelle VanEmburgh tallied six points on three goals and three assists while also notching four draw controls, and Erin Steinberg contributed two goals and four assists.  Sophia Murray, meanwhile, finished with three goals, two assists and a game-high eight draw controls.  The Mustangs used four goalkeepers, with Anna Johnston (1-0) playing half the game and earning the win.  She made three saves.

The Privateers will now have more than a week off before returning to action.  Maritime (0-0 Skyline) begins Skyline Conference play by hosting Manhattanville (1-4, 0-0 Skyline) at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 29.
