Maritime Holds Off Salve Regina, 8-7

THROGGS NECK, NY – After taking an 8-4 lead into the fourth quarter, the Maritime College men's lacrosse team saw Salve Regina (0-2) score three straight to pull within one with 1:08 remaining on Saturday afternoon.  However, the Privateers (2-0) followed the Seahawks' last goal with a key faceoff win, allowing them to run out the clock in an 8-7 victory at Reinhart Field.

Maritime got three goals in a two-minute span midway through the first quarter and increased its advantage to 6-1 on a man-up tally by Charles Gerace (Miller Place, NY) with 12:43 left until halftime.  The Seahawks added two scores before halftime, then pulled within 6-4 on Max Beauchamp's goal at the 11:53 mark of the third quarter.  Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) responded by finding the back of the net twice in a 1:35 span, though, to make it 8-4 heading into the final period.

Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY) helped preserve the lead by making 10 third-quarter saves.  He then tallied four saves during a fourth quarter in which Salve Regina outshot Maritime 12-5.  For the game, Daresta (2-0) had a career-high 20 saves, as the Seahawks fired 47 total shots.

Reilly paced the Privateers offensively with three goals, his second straight hat trick to start the season.  Gerace had two goals and an assist, while Charles Longo (Bellport, NY) and Thomas Kennedy (Orangeburg, NY) each added a goal and two assists.  Patrick Schnell (Jericho, NY), meanwhile, distributed two assists.  Luke Caliendo (North Babylon, NY) picked up a team-high five ground balls, and Nick Spista (White Plains, NY) tallied three ground balls.

For the Seahawks, Beauchamp led the way with three goals and Liam Cooney scored twice.  Daniel Naglieri contributed three assists, while Brendan Treacy handed out two assists.  Kieran Hughes collected seven ground balls, and Jack Naglieri registered five ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers.  Goalkeeper Andrew Hazard (0-2) made 10 saves for Salve Regina.

The Privateers hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday night, when they travel to Stevens (1-1) at 7 p.m.  It will be Maritime's first time visiting the Ducks since the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
