THROGGS NECK, NY – For the second straight week, the Maritime College swimming & diving team has had multiple athletes recognized by the Skyline Conference. The Privateer women took home two awards, with
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY) honored as the Skyline Swimmer of the Week and
Jessica Magee (Smithtown, NY) earning a Diver of the Week nod.
Gabriel Abreu (New York, NY), meanwhile, was named Skyline Rookie of the Week on the men's side.
After winning the 1000 yard freestyle (14:12.00) and placing second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:22.33) in a dual meet loss to Baruch, Barriteau took first in all three of her events against Purchase on Friday night. She notched individual victories in the 1000 freestyle (14:25.75) and 100 breaststroke (1:25.66) while also swimming the third leg on the triumphant 200 yard medley relay squad in Maritime's dual meet win. Magee, meanwhile, grabbed first place in the 1-meter diving competition at both meets, scoring 171.85 points against Baruch and 205.95 points in the victory over Purchase.
This is Magee's fifth career Skyline Weekly honor. She was named Diver of the Week twice last season and once in 2022, when she also received one Rookie of the Week award. Barriteau was recognized by the conference for the first time.
Abreu won two events on Friday, as the men's team also beat Purchase. He posted a time of 25.82 seconds in the 50 yard freestyle and had a 1:12.09 clocking in the 100 yard backstroke. Abreu becomes Maritime's second straight Rookie of the Week selection after
Matt Klimek (Malverne, NY) was recognized last week.
The Privateers return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Mount St. Mary for a meet that also includes Merchant Marine and Sarah Lawrence. The competition is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m.
