WAYNE, NJ – On Tuesday, the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled to William Paterson for a dual meet. The Privateer men won four events, but ultimately fell to the Pioneers by a 108-78 count. Maritime's women, meanwhile, dropped an 80-51 decision at Wightman Pool.
The quartet of
Gabriel Abreu (New York, NY),
Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY),
Alex Anastasiades (Rockaway Beach, NY) and
Liam McManus (Islip, NY) opened the meet with a victory by a less than a second in the 200 yard medley relay (1:50.79). Hayes went on to add two individual triumphs. He took first in both the 100 yard butterfly (56.08) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.07).
Matt Klimek (Malverne, NY), meanwhile, earned the win in the 100 yard freestyle (54.11).
Abreu finished second in the 100 yard backstroke, posting a time of 1:11.60.
Ryan Colombo (Cortland Manor, NY) added a second-place showing in the 500 yard freestyle (5:34.64). He also anchored the 200 yard freestyle relay to a 1:44.42 clocking.
Victor Pineda (Bronx, NY),
Parker Endress (Hamburg, NY) and Klimek were the other members of that relay squad.
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY) grabbed a win for the Maritime women in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.49). She also placed second in the 200 yard freestyle (2:25.98).
Oceana Elefante (Sayville, NY) notched a 1:05.44 clocking in the 100 freestyle to go along with a second-place effort in the 50 yard freestyle (29.13). The Privateers' 200 freestyle relay team of
Alexa Nolan (Queens, NY),
Julia Augello (Whitestone, NY),
Grace Devaney (Lynbrook, NY) and
Carolina Hardy (Long Beach, NY) capped the competition by recording a time of 2:13.30.
Up next for Maritime is a Skyline Conference quad-meet hosted by Mount St. Mary at 11 a.m. on Saturday. In addition to the host Knights, the Privateers will take on Merchant Marine and Sarah Lawrence.
