PATCHOGUE, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team got on the board first against St. Joseph's LI on Saturday afternoon. However, the first-place Golden Eagles (11-2-2, 10-0-0 Skyline) responded with three straight goals before holding off the Privateers (7-4-5, 3-3-4 Skyline) in the second half of a 3-2 victory at Danzi Stadium.
For the third time in its last five games, Maritime found the back of the net within the first 10 minutes.
Jose Gonzalez (New York, NY) scored his first collegiate tally in the sixth minute to give the Privateers that early lead. However, the Golden Eagles' Marc Tolkin responded in the 17
th minute, leveling the contest at 1-1. Tolkin then added another tally in the 39
th minute to put St. Joseph's LI in front 2-1 at halftime.
Jack Pulisic increased the Golden Eagles' advantage to 3-1 with his tally early in the second half. Less than five minutes later,
Justin Song (Syosset, NY) put one home to bring the Privateers within 3-2. Maritime was unable to find an equalizer, however, as St. Joseph's LI remained undefeated in Skyline play.
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (7-4-5) tallied four saves in the losing effort. Giuseppe Vitale (11-2-2), meanwhile, made one save for the Golden Eagles.
Maritime wraps up the regular season with a 4 p.m. matchup at Mount St. Vincent (10-5-3, 5-4-1 Skyline) on Wednesday. The Privateers enter the game one point out of sixth place in the Skyline standings and will need a win to keep their Skyline Tournament hopes alive.
