RIVERDALE, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team entered the final game of the 2024 regular season knowing that it needed a win to have any chance of qualifying for the Skyline Conference Tournament. The Privateers (7-5-5, 3-4-4 Skyline) were unable to come back from a 4-0 deficit, however, as Mount St. Vincent (11-5-3, 6-4-1 Skyline) eliminated Maritime from playoff contention with a 4-2 victory at the Athletic Field at Marillac.
Javier Trujillo put the Dolphins on the board in the 36
th minute, then Jenlius Henriquez increased Mount St. Vincent's advantage to 2-0 in the 42
nd minute. Henriquez scored again in the 54
th minute before William Sornin added a 59
th-minute tally. The Privateers finally broke through in the 71
st minute, when
Georgios Tsatalios (Athens, Greece) slipped one past Andrew Tarkazikis.
Jeferson Blanco (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) brought Maritime within 4-2 in the 89
th minute, but the Privateers ran out of time.
Blanco's goal was his fourth in just seven games played this season.
Justin Song (Syosset, NY) was credited with the assist. Tsatalios, meanwhile, found the back of the net for the first time in his career.
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (7-5-5) made five saves in a losing effort. Miguel Fierro (2-0-1) earned the win for the Dolphins after playing the first 68 minutes in goal. Tarkazikis recorded three saves over the final 22 minutes.
With a 7-5-5 record, Maritime had its most wins since 2021 and posted its first winning record since 2019. The Privateers' 13 points in Skyline play represented an 11-point improvement from last season.
