Maritime Cruises Past Purchase On Senior Night

THROGGS NECK, NY – It was a memorable Senior Night for Ryan Breaton (Bayport, NY), Trevor Hubbard (East Northport, NY) and Fanis Tsatalios (Athens, Greece) of the Maritime College men's soccer team.  The trio was honored prior to their final game at Reinhart Field, then Breaton and Hubbard each scored their first collegiate goal in the Privateers' 4-0 victory over Purchase (1-12-0, 0-9-0 Skyline) on Friday night.  With the win, Maritime (7-2-5, 3-1-4 Skyline) completed an unbeaten season at home.

Jonathan Toma (Massapequa, NY) got the scoring started in the 13th minute, when he blasted one off the crossbar and in.  Breaton then found the back of the net on a perfectly placed header in the 15th minute.  His first career tally came in his 40th career game and gave the Privateers a 2-0 lead.

Purchase nearly made it 2-1 in the 57th minute.  Liam George got past Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) and had an empty net, but Nicolas Silva (Middle Village, NY) played it off the goal line for a corner kick.  In the 70th minute, Hubbard notched his first goal on a header from the left of the box off an assist from Jose Gonzalez (New York, NY).  Chris Vazquez (Woodhaven, NY) added an 85th-minute tally, as the Privateers closed out a 7-0-3 season at Reinhart Field.

This is Maritime's second three-game winning streak of the season, and the Privateers are unbeaten in their last seven straight.  Maritime also notched its fourth consecutive clean sheet, matching the Privateers' season-opening run of four shutouts in a row.

Lebron (7-2-5) was credited with three saves in the victory.  Danny Madeira (New Rochelle, NY) saw his first action of the season in relief of Lebron, playing the final seven minutes.  Purchase goalkeeper Jack Gjokaj (0-12-0), meanwhile, stopped 11 Maritime shots.

The Privateers, who are currently one point out of playoff position, have three games remaining in the regular season—all on the road.  Maritime begins the stretch by visiting Merchant Marine (8-4-2, 5-1-2 Skyline) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
