Privateers’ Unbeaten Streak Reaches Five Straight

THROGGS NECK, NY – After recording three consecutive ties, the Maritime College men's soccer team got back into the win column on Saturday with a 2-0 triumph over Old Westbury (4-8-1, 1-7-0 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.  With the victory, the Privateers (5-2-5, 2-1-4 Skyline) extended their unbeaten streak to five straight and moved into sixth place in the Skyline Conference.

Maritime scored its earliest goal of the season in the seventh minute.  Jonathan Toma (Massapequa, NY) had a shot blocked, but the rebound went right back to him.  Toma then passed to Alex Arriola (Bronx, NY), who put home a half volley to put the Privateers on the board.  Old Westbury nearly tied it in the 25th minute when Jessi Vasquez sent a shot past Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY).  However, it was played off the goal line by the Maritime defense, preserving the 1-0 lead.

George Kanellopoulos (Bayside, NY) banged an attempt off the crossbar in the 75th minute and Fanis Tsatalios (Athens, Greece) saw two 78th-minute shots stopped before the Privateers added another tally in the 84th minute.  Jude Callan's (Centerport, NY) shot was blocked and he got his own rebound.  He then blasted a second attempt off the post and in to give Maritime a two-goal advantage.

Lebron (5-2-5) made six saves in his seventh shutout of the season.  Arriola's goal was his team-leading fourth of the year.  Callan, meanwhile, found the back of the net for the first time since Oct. 10, 2022.

Andy Chacho (1-5-0) took the loss for Old Westbury.  He was credited with four saves, as Maritime held a 26-19 edge in shots.

On Wednesday, the Privateers continue their three-game homestand by welcoming Cobleskill (3-8-2) to Reinhart Field for a 7 p.m. matchup.  It will be Maritime's final non-conference contest of the season.
