Privateers Lose at Purchase

PURCHASE, NY – After playing two straight home games, the Maritime College men's soccer team hit the road on Saturday for a matchup with Purchase.  The Privateers (3-4-2, 0-3-1 Skyline) suffered their third straight loss, falling to the Panthers (7-2-0, 3-1-0 Skyline) by a score of 4-0 at the Purchase Soccer Field.

Maritime had the game's first scoring chance in the third minute, but Jack Burkhardt's (Cutchogue, NY) shot was saved by Purchase goalkeeper Jack Gjokaj.  The Panthers then got on the board in the 11th minute when Oliver Broun banged one off the crossbar and in from 15 yards out.  Broun scored again four minutes later, sending a one-timer past Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) to put Purchase up 2-0.

In the second half, Purchase added two more goals.  Liam George found the back of the net in the 52nd minute, then Jair Cano increased the Panthers' advantage to 4-0 with his 58th-minute tally. Maritime peppered Gjokaj with shots over the final 15 minutes.  He made four late save, however, to finish off the shutout.

Gjokaj (6-2-0) had seven total saves in the game.  Lebron (3-4-2), meanwhile, turned away four Purchase shots.

The Privateers welcome St. Joseph's Brooklyn (1-6-0, 0-3-0 Skyline) to Reinhart Field at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.  It will be the start of a span where Maritime plays three out of four at home.
