Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

St. Joseph’s Brooklyn Gets Past Maritime

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team returned to Reinhart Field on Tuesday night for a Skyline Conference matchup.  The Bears (3-6-0, 2-3-0 Skyline) scored in the final minute of the first half, then added another tally late in the second half to clinch a 2-0 victory over the Privateers (3-5-2, 0-4-1 Skyline).

St. Joseph's Brooklyn outshot Maritime 11-3 in the first half, but Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) made four saves in the opening 45 minutes, including an outstanding kick stop.  It looked like the game would be scoreless going into halftime, but the Bears got a goal from Victor Naci with 12 seconds remaining in the half.  Bryan Lucero came streaking up the left side and drew Lebron out.  He then sent one low to Naci, who put it into the empty net.

Maritime had its best scoring chance in the 80th minute, when Jake Rodriguez's (Nanuet, NY) blast was stopped by St. Joseph's Brooklyn goalkeeper Christian Chimborazo.  Four minutes later, Jesus Cano's attempt went off Lebron's hands and in to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.  That would prove to be the final, as the Privateers were unable to get a shot off over the final five minutes.

Lebron (3-5-2) recorded five saves in the loss.  Chimborazo (1-3-0), meanwhile, turned away a pair of Maritime shots.

On Saturday, the Privateers return to action with a 2 p.m. showdown at Old Westbury (2-6-1, 0-4-1 Skyline).  It will be Maritime's only road contest in a four-game stretch.
