THROGGS NECK, NY – On Wednesday night, the Maritime College men's soccer team welcomed preseason Skyline Conference favorite Manhattanville to Reinhart Field. The Privateers (3-3-2, 0-2-1 Skyline) scored their first goal against the Valiants (2-3-3, 2-0-1 Skyline) since 2008 in a 5-1 defeat.
A free kick led to Manhattanville's first goal in the 12
th minute. Matt Rabadi set up from 30 yards out and hit Nico Del Vescovo, who chipped it past
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) to give the Valiants a 1-0 lead. Manhattanville extended its advantage to 2-0 in the 43
rd minute, when Cole Weiner put home a half volley.
Manhattanville added a pair of goals two minutes apart in the second half. Manuel Morales scored in the 67
th minute before Arjan Delija found the back of the net in the 69
th minute. Delija then assisted on Sebastian Testa's 77
th-minute tally. Less than two minutes later,
Chris Vazquez (Woodhaven, NY) headed in a feed from
Jack Burkhardt (Cutchogue, NY) for his team-leading fifth goal of the year.
The Privateers outshot 23-10 in the game, and Lebron (3-3-2) made two saves. Manhattanville goalkeeper Luis Granados (2-3-3) stopped four Maritime shots.
After playing four out of five at home, the Privateers hit the road for two of their next three. Maritime visits Purchase (6-2-0, 2-1-0 Skyline) at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
