NEWBURGH, NY – On Tuesday night, the Maritime College men's soccer team began its Skyline Conference schedule by visiting Mount St. Mary. For the second straight game, goalkeeper
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) faced a flurry of late shots. For the second straight game, he didn't let one past, as the Privateers (3-1-2, 0-0-1 Skyline) and Knights (0-5-2, 0-0-2 Skyline) played to a 0-0 draw at Kaplan Field.
Maritime played down a man for the final 10 minutes after
Chris Vazquez (Woodhaven, NY) picked up his second yellow card of the contest (the first was later rescinded). The Knights earned a corner kick in the 85
th minute and fired a pair of shots that went wide. Lebron then stopped two late Mount St. Mary attempts to preserve the 0-0 score.
Lebron (3-1-2) faced 15 shots and was credited with a season-high seven saves. The shutout was the second of his career, and his first since a 1-0 victory over Cobleskill on Sept. 3, 2022. Mount St. Mary goalkeeper Caesar Martinez (0-5-2) also notched his first shutout of the year, making one save.
After Lebron registered two saves in the first 15 minutes, Maritime had its best scoring chance in the 22
nd minute.
Justin Song's (Syosset, NY) shot was saved, though, and his second attempt went high. The Privateers had only one other shot in the game, but came away with a point thanks to the play of their goalkeeper and their solid defensive performance.
Up next for Maritime is a 1 p.m. matchup with St. Joseph's LI (3-4-0, 0-2-0 Skyline) at Reinhart Field on Saturday. It will be the first of two straight home games for the Privateers.
