Maritime Erupts For 10 Goals In Win Over York

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team had its biggest offensive output since 2019 on Tuesday night.  Four different Privateers scored twice, as Maritime (2-1-1) rolled past York (0-2-1), 10-3, at Reinhart Field.  It marked the Privateers' first game with double-digit goals since a 12-0 victory over Webb Institute on Aug. 30, 2019.

Justin Song (Syosset, NY) opened the scoring in the ninth minute, when he collected the loose ball after Chris Vazquez's (Woodhaven, NY) shot was saved and put it into the lower left corner.  After York's Jamar Johnson tied the game in the 14th minute, Song connected with Vazquez for a 19th-minute tally that put the Privateers back in front, 2-1.  The Cardinals again tied it on Kervin Mondesir's goal before Omar Matute's (Bayville, NY) blast from 35 yards out found the back of the net in the 37th minute.  Mondesir scored again five minutes later to make it a 3-3 game at halftime.

In the second half, the Privateers went off for seven goals.  Jack Young (Floral Park, NY) notched his first collegiate tally in the 54th minute and added another in the 58th minute.  Young assisted on Song's second goal of the game in the 65th minute, then Vazquez knocked in a rebound for his second score of the night.  Fanis Tsatalios (Athens, Greece) scored twice in little more than a minute before Joseph Foye (Rockaway Park, NY) notched Maritime's 10th goal in the 79th minute.

Vazquez had a six-point night with two goals and two assists.  Song and Young each finished with two goals and an assist, while Matute picked up an assist to go along with his third goal of the season.  Tsatalios' two goals were his second and third of the year.  Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) (2-1-1) played the first 74 minutes in net before being replaced by Miles Mitidieri (St. Augustine, FL).

With his two tallies for York, Mondesir now has three on the season.  Johnson's goal was his first.  George Molina got the start between the pipes, making nine saves and allowing two goals over 35 minutes.  Alex Conde (0-1-0) took the loss after giving up eight goals.  He was credited with six saves, as the Privateers outshot the Cardinals 46-7, including a 25-3 edge in shots on goal.

Maritime concludes its non-conference schedule by hosting Five Towns (1-1-0) at 7 p.m. on Friday.  Immediately preceding the men's game, the Maritime and Five Towns women will square off at 4 p.m.
