PATCHOGUE, NY – The Maritime College men's lacrosse team was in action for the third time in five days on Tuesday. The quick turnaround didn't seem to faze the Privateers (8-5, 3-0 Skyline) who jumped out to an 11-2 halftime lead en route to a 16-6 triumph over St. Joseph's LI (1-3, 1-1 Skyline) at Danzi Stadium. It was Maritime's seventh straight win and 28
th consecutive victory over Skyline Conference opposition.
Thomas Kennedy (Orangeburg, NY) put the Privateers on the board less than three minutes in, and
Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) added a pair of goals to make it 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. Maritime then scored eight times in the second quarter to extend its advantage to 11-2 at halftime.
After holding the Golden Eagles scoreless in the first quarter, the Privateers had another 21-minute span where they didn't allow a goal between the second and third quarters. Maritime outscored St. Joseph's LI 8-0 during that stretch to increase its lead to 13-2. The Golden Eagles finally snapped their scoring drought when Michael Carere found the back of the net with 4:13 left in the third quarter, and Carere notched three fourth-quarter tallies to pull St. Joseph's LI within 15-6 before
Carlos Olivas (Poulsbo, WA) closed out the scoring in Maritime's 15-6 victory with him first collegiate goal.
Joseph Bruno (East Islip, NY) went 20-for-25 on faceoffs and picked up 15 ground balls. He also scored a goal. Reilly finished with four goals and an assist, while
Charles Longo (Bellport, NY) had three goals. Kennedy
found the back of the net twice and added an assist.
Ryan Brice (Wall, NJ) added two goals of his own, and
Kieran Hendry (East Northport, NY) gathered five ground balls.
All three Maritime goalkeepers saw action for the third consecutive game.
Ben McGrady (Annapolis, MD) (8-4) started and played the first half. He was credited with three saves.
Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) allowed one goal and made one save before
Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY) took over in the fourth quarter and stopped three St. Joseph's LI shots.
Carere was involved in all six of the Golden Eagles' goals. He scored five times and assisted on the sixth, which was put in by Nik Allen. Carere also had a team-best five ground balls, while Allen added four ground balls. Connor Van Dusen (1-3) recorded 12 saves.
On Friday night, the Privateers return home for a 7 p.m. matchup against Farmingdale (10-2, 1-1 Skyline). It will be Maritime's first meeting with the Rams since last season's Skyline Championship Game.
