THROGGS NECK, NY – The goals came early and often for the Maritime College women's lacrosse team on Monday afternoon. The Privateers (4-1) scored 12 times in the first quarter of a 21-5 victory over Albertus Magnus (0-5) at Reinhart Field.
Morgan Tracy (Cambridge, MD) broke the seal just 31 seconds into the contest, and it took only five minutes for
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) to complete a hat trick. After the Falcons got on the board at the 9:16 mark, the Privateers rattled off seven straight goals to increase their lead to 12-1. Maritime extended its advantage to 14-2 before Keegan Riccio scored for Albertus Magnus on the last play of the first half.
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) found the back of the net twice in the third quarter, then
Kathryn Sandford (Floral Park, NY) celebrated her birthday with her first collegiate goal early in the fourth. Another Maritime defender—
Gia DiToma (North Syracuse, NY)—capped the scoring, as she converted a free position attempt with 1:25 left to make it a 21-5 final. The 21 goals tied the Privateers' season-high.
As a team, the Privateers totaled 37 points to set a program record. Maritime also established a single-game program mark with 16 assists in the contest. Eleven different Privateers had at least one point, with eight notching multi-point performances.
Nicolosi finished with five goals and five assists for the third 10-point game of her career. She also picked up five ground balls. Tracy added five goals and three ground balls, while
Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton-On-Hudson, NY) collected six points on two goals and four assists. In addition to scoring twice,
Nicole Johnson (Farmingville, NY) tallied seven draw controls and three ground balls.
Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY), meanwhile, recorded six draw controls and three caused turnovers. Goalkeeper
Liz Pomaro (Farmingville, NY) (4-1) was credited with four saves in the win.
Alexandra Barrett contributed to four of the five Albertus Magnus goals, scoring two and assisting on two others. She also picked up a game-high five ground balls. Riccio found the back of the net twice, while Kaitlin D'Agostino tallied the other Falcons goal to go along with eight draw controls and three ground balls. Kelly Musante (0-5) stopped 16 Maritime shots in a losing effort.
On Wednesday, the Privateers visit Ramapo (1-4) for a 4:30 p.m. matchup.
