Privateers Edged By Mount St. Vincent On Senior Night

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team celebrated Senior Night prior to its final home game of the season on Saturday.  After honoring Jack Burkhardt (Cutchogue, NY), Jake Cosgrove (Seaford, NY), Omar Matute (Bayville, NY) and Ege Ozaman (Queens, NY) in a pregame ceremony, the Privateers (3-9-3, 0-8-2 Skyline) dropped a 2-0 decision Mount St. Vincent (7-4-3, 5-2-3 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.

Matute nearly put Maritime on the board in the ninth minute, but his blast banged off the crossbar.  Nicolas Silva (Middle Village, NY) followed with an attempt that Mount St. Vincent goalkeeper Joel Luna saved to keep the game scoreless.  The Dolphins were then credited with the contest's first goal in the 23rd minute, when Franklin Hernandez's shot was deflected in by the Maritime defense.

In the 56th minute, Mount St. Vincent earned a penalty kick after a foul in the box.  Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) guessed right, but Ian Lamas was able to sneak it just past him to give the Dolphins a 2-0 lead.

That would prove to be the final, as Luna (5-2-3) finished with four saves in the shutout.  Lebron (3-9-3), meanwhile, was credited with five saves in a losing effort.

Maritime wraps up its 2023 campaign on Wednesday night, when the Privateers visit Sarah Lawrence (3-10-1, 2-7-1 Skyline) at 7 p.m.
