YONKERS, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team scored the first goal in its season finale at Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday night. After tying the game in the 71
st minute, the Gryphons (5-10-1, 3-7-1 Skyline) got a late tally to secure a 2-1 over the Privateers (3-10-3, 0-9-2 Skyline) at Fleming Field.
Sarah Lawrence fired five shots on goal in the first half, but
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) stopped all of them to keep the game scoreless. Maritime then broke through in the 67
th minute, when
Jack Burkhardt (Cutchogue, NY) found the back of the net. Barely four minutes later, Ralph Calle-Schulz tied it for the Gryphons. He scored again in the 84
th minute, putting home a feed from Leon Bronshvag. That would prove to be the game-winner, as Sarah Lawrence notched the 2-1 victory.
Burkhardt's goal was his fourth of the year. Lebron (3-10-3), meanwhile, was credited with six saves. Kian Silva (3-9-1) made a pair of saves for the Gryphons. Calle-Schulz recorded his first two tallies of the season, with Bronshvag assisting on both.
Maritime wraps up the season with 24 goals scored, more than double its 2022 total.
Chris Vazquez (Woodhaven, NY) paced the team with five tallies, the most by a Privateer in a single season since 2019.
