THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team (3-7-3, 0-6-2 Skyline) earned a 2-2 tie against Merchant Marine (4-4-7, 3-0-5 Skyline) at Reinhart Field on Sunday afternoon. With the draw, the Privateers snapped their six-game losing streak.
A hand ball in the box gave Maritime a penalty kick in the 11
th minute.
Jack Burkhardt (Cutchogue, NY) stepped up to the spot and buried into the lower left corner, putting the Privateers in front. It was his third goal of the year.
Early in the second half, Merchant Marine found the equalizer when Michael Hofstetter slipped a half volley past
Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY). The Privateers countered in the 61
st minute. After a Merchant Marine foul set up a free kick,
Christopher Laino (West Islip, NY) had a pair of attempts blocked before a shot by
Georgios Tsatalios (Athens, Greece) was played off the goal line by the Mariners defense.
Justin Song (Syosset, NY) then blasted one that hit off Tsatalios and went right to Laino, who put it home for his first collegiate goal.
It remained 2-1 until the 77
