Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Maritime Topped By Yeshiva

THROGGS NECK, NY – On Friday afternoon, the Maritime College men's soccer team took on Skyline Conference-leading Yeshiva at Reinhart Field.  Despite a career-high 11 saves by Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY), the Privateers (3-7-2, 0-6-1 Skyline) fell to the Maccabees (5-2-2, 5-0-2 Skyline) by a 3-0 count.

After Yeshiva had several early opportunities, Omar Matute (Bayville, NY) nearly put Maritime on the board in the 11th minute.  His shot was saved, though.  The Maccabees then took the lead just over a minute later on a tally by Josh Ziarno.  Franco Busso made it 2-0 in the 38th minute before Andrea Lacche found the back of the net in the 43rd minute.  Late in the half, Georgios Tsatalios (Athens, Greece) sent a shot that was played by Yeshiva keeper Kellian Marty just before crossing the goal line, preserving Yeshiva's 3-0 advantage.

In the 69th minute, Jack Burkhardt (Cutchogue, NY) hit the post and the rebound went right to Justin Song (Syosset, NY), whose attempt went high.  Maritime kept applying the pressure in the second half, and Jake Cosgrove (Seaford, NY) put a free kick on goal from 35 yards out in the 81st minute.  However, the Privateers were unable to sneak one past Marty and the game ended in a 3-0 Yeshiva victory.

Maritime was outshot 21-12 overall and 13-2 in the first half, when Lebron (3-7-2) made six of his 11 saves.  Marty (5-2-2) was credited with seven saves while recording his third shutout in four games.  Ziarno assisted on the other two Yeshiva goals, giving him four points in the contest.

This marked the start of a span in which Maritime plays three games in five days.  The Privateers welcome Merchant Marine (4-4-6, 3-0-4 Skyline) to Reinhart Field at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
