Maritime Men, Women Knock Off Purchase In Dual Meet

PURCHASE, NY –
The Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled to Purchase for a dual meet on Tuesday night.  The Privateer men won 12 of the 13 events en route to a 122-54 victory, while the Maritime women defeated the Panthers by a 95-62 score at the Purchase College Athletic Center.

Will Kim (Westbury, NY) and Brian Reilly (Sayville, NY) both earned a pair of event wins on the men's side.  Kim was first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:09.07) and 100 yard butterfly (57.64), while Reilly picked up victories in the 20 yard individual medley (2:29.89) and 100 yard freestyle (57.38).  They also joined with Stephen Roe (La Grange, IL) and Griffin Goldleaf (New Paltz, NY) in the 200 yard medley relay, posting a time of 1:55.42 to win by more than 10 seconds.

Roe added an individual win in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:05.67), and he placed second behind Kim in the 100 butterfly (1:01.12).  Goldleaf, meanwhile, took first in the 100 yard backstroke with a 1:07.07 clocking.  Other individual champions included Sean Hussey (Massapequa, NY) in the 50 yard freestyle (25.94) and Alex Baros (Phoenix, AZ) in the 500 yard freestyle (6:22.43).  Baros later swam leadoff on the victorious 200 yard freestyle relay team.  Nolan Lovegrove (Darien, CT), Anthony Marrone (Washingtonville, NY) and Sean Corrigan (Warwick, NY) were the other members of the relay squad, which finished in 1:47.24.

Maritime's women came away with eight victories, including two each for Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY) and Maeve Lavery (Bronx, NY).  Barriteau took first in the 1000 freestyle (14:02.72) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:20.87), while Lavery swept the 100 and 200 freestyles.  She posted a time of 1:02.43 in the 100 freestyle and swam the 200 freestyle in 2:20.00.

With no diving events on the program, Jessica Magee (Smithtown, NY) contested the 50 freestyle instead, and she earned the victory with a 29.98-second clocking.  Marilyn Peterson (Whitney Point, NY), meanwhile, was triumphant in the 500 freestyle (7:29.94).  In addition to placing first in the 100 butterfly (1:47.41), Kirsten Argueta (Englewood, NJ) anchored the 200 freestyle relay team to a winning time of 2:19.00.  She was joined on the relay by Lauren Clary (Bethlehem, GA), Aisling Donnelly (New City, NY) and Isabelle Gautier (Pascagoula, MS).

On Saturday, the Privateers return to Purchase for day one of the Skyline Conference Championships.  Competition gets underway at 10:30 a.m.
