Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Maritime, Five Towns Play to 1-1 Draw

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team continued its four-game homestand with a matchup against Five Towns on Tuesday night.  Despite being outshot 22-3 by the Sound (1-2-1), the Privateers (1-1-1) came away with a 1-1 draw at a rainy Reinhart Field.

Five Towns got on the board early, as Samuel Menezes sent a long pass to a streaking Angel Chavez, who got past the Maritime defense and found the back of the net in the fifth minute.  The Privateers would respond in the 21st minute.  Nick Glancy (Deer Park, NY) took a free kick from 25 yards out and put it on goal.  Steven Paguada made the save before the rebound went right onto the foot of Jake Cosgrove (Seaford, NY), who scored to make it a 1-1 game.

In the second half, Five Towns held an 18-1 edge in shots, but goalkeeper Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) came up big for the Privateers to preserve the tie.  The Sound missed a penalty kick in the 67th minute, then Lebron made back-to-back saves 10 minutes later.  Chavez had one last scoring opportunity in the 82nd minute, which Lebron easily handled for his fourth save of the half and fifth of the night.

Cosgrove's goal was the first of his career, while Glancy was credited with his second assist of the season.  Despite facing relentless pressure most of the night, Lebron (1-0-1) allowed just the one score to go along with his five saves.  Paguada (1-2-1) recorded one save for Five Towns.

Up next for Maritime is a 2 p.m. contest against Mass. Maritime (0-2-0) on Saturday afternoon.  This will mark the first time the annual game between the rivals is played at Reinhart Field.
