THROGGS NECK, NY – One day after the Maritime College football team's thrilling Chowder Bowl victory over Mass. Maritime, it was the Privateer men's soccer team's turn to host the rival Buccaneers. Saturday's game didn't turn out as well for the home team, however, as Mass. Maritime (1-3-0) earned a 3-2 win over Maritime (1-2-1) at Reinhart Field.
The Privateers struck first on an 18
th-minute penalty kick.
Thomas Luongo (Center Moriches, NY) drew a foul in the box and put home the PK for his second goal of the season. After Mass. Maritime tied it on Ryan Soughou's goal in the 25
th minute, Maritime earned another penalty kick late in the first half. However, this time Buccaneers goalkeeper Quinn Kelly made the stop to keep the game level at 1-1.
Mass. Maritime took the lead on a CJ Vincent penalty kick in the 54
th minute, then extended its advantage to 3-1 on Brendan Bouressa's blast 12 minutes later. In the 82
nd minute,
Fanis Tsatalios (Wayne, NJ) took a pass from
Justin Song (Syosset, NY), spun, and shot past Kelly to pull the Privateers within 3-2. Despite a furious attack over the final seven minutes, Maritime was unable to find the equalizer and the Buccaneers came away with the victory.
Danny Madeira (New Rochelle, NY) (0-2-0) got the start in net and made five saves. Kelly (1-3-0), meanwhile, recorded six saves for Mass. Maritime.
Maritime concludes its four-game homestand on Sunday afternoon, when it takes on Potsdam (2-1-0) at 1:30 p.m.
