Maritime Topped By Mount St. Mary

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team welcomed Mount St. Mary to Reinhart Field on Saturday night.  Looking to earn points in a second straight Skyline Conference game after Wednesday night's draw against Sarah Lawrence, the Privateers (1-5-2, 0-2-1 Skyline) were unable to do so, falling to the Knights (3-4-2, 1-1-1 Skyline) by a 5-0 count.

Mount St. Mary struck early, scoring two goals 15 seconds apart in the sixth minute.  The Knights added another tally in the 14th minute, when Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) made the save on Connor Doyle's shot, but Matt Wyant put in the rebound to make it 3-0.  Mount St. Mary added two second-half scores in the 5-0 victory.

Wyant was involved in four of the Knights' five goals, scoring twice and assisting on two others.  Doyle, meanwhile, recorded one goal and one assist four Mount St. Mary, which held a 26-11 advantage in shots.

Maritime's best scoring chances came late.  In the 80th minute, Jude Callan (Centerport, NY) had a shot blocked before Ryan Breaton's (Bayport, NY) attempt was saved.  The Privateers put four shots on net, all of which were stopped by Mount St. Mary goalkeeper Caesar Martinez (3-4-2).  Lebron (1-2-1) was credited with five saves for Maritime.

After playing six out of seven at home, the Privateers hit the road for their next two games.  Maritime visits St. Joseph's LI (5-1-0, 2-0-0 Skyline) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
