Maritime Defeated By Yeshiva In Skyline Opener

TEANECK, NJ – The Maritime College men's soccer team began Skyline Conference play against Yeshiva on Thursday night.  The Privateers (1-4-1, 0-1-0 Skyline) were unable to come away with the victory, however, as the Maccabees (3-1-1, 2-1-1 Skyline) earned an 8-0 win at Votee Park.

Josh Ziarno got Yeshiva on the board in the sixth minute, and the Maccabees increased their lead to 2-0 on Ethan Fettaya's goal in the 22nd minute.  The Maccabees then scored six times in a 20-minute span in the second half.  Yonatan Reiter started the run just 65 seconds into the half, while Isaac Bendahan capped the scoring in the 66th minute.

Maritime's best scoring chances came in a flurry of shots with approximately 15 minutes left.  After Jude Callan's (Centerport, NY) attempt was saved, Fanis Tsatalios (Wayne, NJ) sent a blast from the left that went just wide.  Luc Iversen (West Babylon, NY) then had a pair of shots saved.

Three goalkeepers saw action for the Privateers, with Danny Madeira (New Rochelle, NY) (0-3-0) getting the start and taking the loss.  He made three saves in 58 minutes of action.  Augusto Lebron (Valley Stream, NY) played 18 minutes and recorded two saves, while Dalson Case (Rohoboth, DE) didn't allow a goal and was credited with one save in his collegiate debut.

Ziarno and Reiter each scored twice for Maccabees, and Rafael Cohen notched four points on a goal and two assists.  Alexandre Assouline also posted two assists for Yeshiva.  Benjamin Brener (2-0-0) earned the win after stopping four Maritime shots in 85 minutes before being relieved by Eli Cohen, who notched one save.

This was Maritime's only road contest in an eight-game span.  The Privateers return to Reinhart Field on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. matchup with CCNY (0-3-0).
