ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team began its 2022 season with a visit to Bard on Thursday night.
Jake Rodriguez (Nanuet, NY) scored the Privateers' first goal of the year in the 61
st minute, but it was not enough, as Maritime (0-1-0) dropped a 3-1 decision to the host Raptors (1-0-0) at the Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex.
Bard struck early, getting a goal from Nick Agugliaro in the sixth minute. The Raptors doubled their lead in the 51
st minute, when Isaiah Ortiz beat Maritime goalkeeper
Danny Madeira (New Rochelle, NY). However,
Nick Glancy (Deer Park, NY) connected with Rodriguez in the 61
st minute to cut Maritime's deficit in half. Bard added another score from Dylan Kotlowitz in the 74
th minute to close out a 3-1 victory.
Rodriguez's goal was the only Maritime shot that went on target. Madeira (0-1-0), meanwhile, was credited with one save.
Bard had a 10-6 advantage in shots, including five by Caleb Ribeiro. He also assisted on two of the Raptors' goals. Gavin Hersey (1-0-0) earned the win in goal.
Maritime's home opener is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday against Cobleskill (0-1-0). It will be the start of a four-game homestand for the Privateers.
