Maritime Finishes Regular Season Undefeated In Skyline Play

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's lacrosse team's last loss to a Skyline Conference opponent came against Mount St. Mary.  That was in 2018. The Privateers (9-7, 7-0 Skyline) extended their streak to 23 consecutive wins against conference foes and wrapped up their third successive undefeated Skyline campaign with a 17-3 victory over the Knights (8-7, 2-5 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.

Maritime, which had already wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Skyline Tournament last week, honored its five seniors—Josh Fix (Islip, NY), Jack Haberman (Port Washington, NY), John Moore (Syosset, NY), Kevin O'Connor (St. James, NY) and Kyle Orton (Lewes, DE)—before the contest.  Orton then scored the first goal of the game just 1:28 into the opening quarter.

William Prokesch (Sayville, NY) and Ryan Brice (Wall, NJ) added first-quarter tallies, as the Privateers built a 3-0 lead.  Maritime then outscored Mount St. Mary 6-0 in the second quarter to extend its advantage to 9-0 at halftime.

After a pair of John Killcommons (Garden City, NY) scores early in the third quarter made it 11-0, the Knights got on the board when Colby Martin found the back of the net at the 10:15 mark.  However, Maritime notched the final three goals of the period, then closed out the 17-3 victory by scoring three times in the fourth, including two six seconds apart by Charles Longo (Bellport, NY) and Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY).

Reilly was one of six Privateers with two or more goals, and he also had two assists.  Killcommons also tallied four points on three goals and one assist, while Proksech, Longo and Connor Tomich (Sayville, NY) all finished with two goals and an assist.  Orton picked up a team-high five ground balls to go along with two goals, and Schnell recorded four points on a goal and three assists. He added four ground balls.

Brian Drost (Shoreham, NY) and Thomas Pellicci (Manorville, NY) both collected four ground balls, while Joe Kiernan (Northport, NY) and Patrick McGrath (Franklin Square, NY) each caused three of Mount St. Mary's 31 turnovers.  Starting goalkeeper Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (7-1) did not allow a goal and was credited with three saves in the first half.  Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY) made three saves, and Ben McGrady (Annapolis, MD) stopped one Mount St. Mary shot.

Martin had a goal and an assist for the Knights. Nick Gurello and Sean Mueller scored the other Mount St. Mary goals.  Joseph Angelillo corralled a team-high five ground balls, and Chris Maggio picked up four ground balls to go along with a team-best three caused turnovers.  Devin Kelley (7-7) played the first 45 minutes in goal and tallied 10 saves.

Top-seeded Maritime will begin its quest for a third straight Skyline Conference Tournament title by hosting a semifinal game on Wednesday.  The Privateers will take on the No. 4 seed, which will be either St. Joseph's LI, Farmingdale or Merchant Marine.
