Privateers Top St. Joseph’s LI In Skyline Semifinals

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's lacrosse will once again be hosting the Skyline Conference Championship Game.  Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) tied a program record with eight goals, as the Privateers (10-7) topped St. Joseph's LI (7-7), 17-13, in the semifinals at Reinhart Field on Wednesday night.  With the win, Maritime moved into the championship game for the third consecutive time.

Reilly had each of Maritime's first five goals, and he scored six times in the first quarter alone.  His eight goals in the contest equaled the mark held by three other players—Donald Toby in 2007, Nick Schneider in 2013, Danny Connell in 2018.

Brian Drost (Shoreham, NY) and John Killcommons (Garden City, NY) also found the back of the net in the first quarter, as the Privateers jumped out to an 8-3 lead.  Sean Foley (Long Beach, NY) and Connor Tomich (Sayville, NY) then added tallies early in the second quarter to make it a 10-3 game.  St. Joseph's LI scored three of the next four goals before Reilly and Killcommons scored on back-to-back possessions to again push the margin to seven, 13-6.

After the Golden Eagles pulled within 15-10 early in the fourth quarter, Kyle Orton (Lewes, DE) responded at the 11:10 mark.  Steven Pinto (Oakdale, NY) gave the Privateers an insurance tally with 3:18 remaining, but St. Joseph's LI won the ensuing faceoff, went down and scored. The Golden Eagles got another goal with 1:18 remaining before running out of time.

Maritime outshot St. Joseph's LI 59-35 and held a 46-39 edge in ground balls.  Killcommons was the only other Privateer with multiple goals, scoring twice.  Tomich had a goal and two assists, while Patrick Schnell (Jericho, NY) and Charles Longo (Bellport, NY) each handed out two assists.  Thomas Pellicci (Manorville, NY) led Maritime with 11 ground balls, and Kieran Hendry (East Northport, NY) caused five turnovers.  Goalkeeper Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (8-1) made 13 saves in his eighth straight win.

For St. Joseph's LI, Michael Carere led the way with three goals and 13 ground balls.  Jack Gilbride finished with two goals and two assists, and Tim McCann also scored twice.  Nik Allen, meanwhile, collected five ground balls.  Andrew Brust (7-7) tallied 18 saves in a losing effort.

Saturday's Skyline Championship Game against Farmingdale (12-3) gets underway at 2:30 p.m.  It will be a rematch of the 2021 championship game, which the Privateers won 13-12.  In this year's regular season meeting, Maritime earned a 14-13 overtime victory on April 20.
