PURCHASE, NY – If the Maritime College men's lacrosse team is going to win a third straight Skyline Conference championship this season, the Privateers won't have to leave Reinhart Field to do it. Maritime (8-7, 6-0 Skyline) wrapped up its third consecutive Skyline regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament with a 26-4 victory over Purchase (5-7, 0-5 Skyline) at Purchase College Turf Field on Saturday.
Maritime scored early and often, jumping out to an 8-0 lead after one quarter.
Jason Corvi (Smithtown, NY) made it 9-0 in favor of the Privateers early in the second quarter before Tom Goldman got Purchase on the board. Maritime responded with the next three goals, though, and held a 13-2 advantage at halftime.
After Purchase's Goldman opened the scoring in the second half, the Privateers rattled off four straight goals to make it 17-3. Maritime's edge was 19-4 at the end of the third quarter, and the Privateers outscored the Panthers 7-0 in the final period to close out the 26-4 victory, its 22
nd in a row against Skyline opposition.
Fifteen different Privateers scored at least once in the game.
Connor Buschle (Bellport, NY) and
Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) led the way with four goals apiece, while
Charles Longo (Bellport, NY) had eight points on three goals and five assists.
Thomas Pellicci (Manorville, NY) went 15-for-21 on faceoffs and led Maritime with four ground balls. All three Privateer goalkeepers saw action, with
Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (6-1) getting the start and playing the first half. He allowed two goals and was credited with four saves.
Goldman had three of Purchase's four goals. He also led the Panthers with eight ground balls. Goalkeeper Will Boes (5-7) picked up four ground balls and made 12 saves.
The Privateers wrap up the regular season next Saturday, when Mount St. Mary (8-5, 2-3 Skyline) visits Reinhart Field at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, Maritime will honor its graduating seniors.
