Privateers Conclude Non-Conference Play With Loss

HARTFORD, CT – The Maritime College men's lacrosse team wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a matchup at Trinity on Saturday.  Playing for the first time in 11 days, the Privateers (2-7) dropped a 20-4 decision to the Bantams (6-3) at Jessee/Miller Field.

Trinity scored the first goal of the game, but Maritime responded less than a minute later when Connor Tomich (Sayville, NY) found the back of the net.  After the Bantams extended their lead to 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, Kyle Orton (Lewes, DE) scored at the 9:28 mark of the second to bring the Privateers within two, 4-2.  Jason Corvi (Smithtown, NY) added a goal late in the quarter, and it was a 7-3 game at halftime.

However, the Bantams outscored the Privateers 6-0 in the third quarter to increase their advantage to 13-3.  Brian Drost (Shoreham, NY) ended Maritime's scoring drought early in the fourth quarter before Trinity recorded the final seven goals of the contest.

Orton and Zander Katsalas (Bayport, NY) led the Privateers with three ground balls apiece.  Katsalas also caused turnovers.  Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (0-1) made his first career start in goal and took the loss.  He recorded 17 saves before giving way to Ben McGrady (Annapolis, MD), who stopped four Trinity shots.

For the Bantams, William Puccio led the way with five goals.  Ryan Werner added three goals and an assist, while Connor McCulloch had two goals and an assist.  Dane Crowley went 18-for-22 on faceoffs and picked up a game-high 13 ground balls. Goalkeeper Jordan Opdahl (1-0) made eight saves over the first three quarters, and Spencer Beakey was credited with three saves in the final period.

After playing four straight away from home, the Privateers return to Reinhart Field for the first time in nearly a month on Wednesday night.  Maritime (0-0 Skyline) hosts Mount St. Vincent (2-5, 1-0 Skyline) at 7 p.m. to open Skyline Conference play.
