THROGGS NECK, NY – Four different players scored two goals apiece for the Maritime College men's lacrosse team on Saturday, as the Privateers (6-7, 4-0 Skyline) earned a 15-5 win over St. Joseph's LI (4-5, 1-2 Skyline) at Reinhart Field. The victory was Maritime's 20
th straight against Skyline competition.
Christian Vera (Baldwin, NY) opened the scoring just 1:33 into the contest, and the Privateers had a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter. After Jack Gilbride got the Golden Eagles on the board, Maritime responded with five unanswered goals.
Parker Reilly's (West Islip, NY) man-down tally at the 44-second mark to make it an 8-1 game at halftime.
After St. Joseph's LI snapped its scoreless drought early in the third quarter, the Privateers notched the next three goals, including a second man-down tally by
John Killcommons (Garden City, NY). Maritime got fourth-quarter goals from
Charles Longo (Bellport, NY) and
Charles Longo (Bellport, NY), as well as two scores from
Sean Foley (Long Beach, NY), to close out the 15-5 victory.
Foley, Longo, Reilly and
Jason Corvi (Smithtown, NY) all found the back of the net twice, while Killcommons and
Connor Tomich (Sayville, NY) each had three points on a goal and two assists.
Joe Kiernan (Northport, NY) finished with five ground balls and four caused turnovers, and
Kieran Hendry (East Northport, NY) also picked up five ground balls.
Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (4-1) made 11 saves before being relieved by
Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY), who stopped three St. Joseph's LI shots.
Tim McCann recorded a goal and an assist for the Golden Eagles. Michael Carere went 13-for-17 on faceoffs and collected nine ground balls. Jesse McKeever added four ground balls for St. Joseph's LI. Goalkeeper Andrew Brust (4-5) tallied three ground balls while also notching 13 saves.
The Privateers return to action on Wednesday, when they visit Farmingdale (8-2, 2-1 Skyline) at 4 p.m. The Rams are currently tied for second in the Skyline Conference standings.
