Maritime Remains Unbeaten In Conference Play

PURCHASE, NY – On Tuesday night, the Maritime College men's lacrosse team traveled to Manhattanville for a Skyline Conference matchup.  The Privateers (5-7, 3-0 Skyline) earned their third consecutive win to begin league play, topping the Valiants (2-8, 1-1 Skyline) by a 16-4 count at GoValiants.com Field.

Maritime jumped out to a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, then outscored Manhattanville 5-0 in the second quarter.  The Privateers added three more goals in the third quarter, extending their cushion to 11-1, before the Valiants got on the board midway through the period.  It was 14-3 after three quarters, and Maritime added two more scores in the final period of its 16-4 victory.

John Killcommons (Garden City, NY) scored six times, the second time a week that a Privateer had six goals in a game.  He also collected four ground balls.  Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) tallied three goals, one assist and four ground balls, while Matthew Guercio (Smithtown, NY) contributed two goals, an assist and four ground balls.

As a team, the Privateers picked up a season-high 68 ground balls and caused 30 turnovers.  Kieran Hendry (East Northport, NY) led Maritime in both categories, finishing with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.  Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (3-1) made eight saves in 50 minutes to earn the win.  Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY) stopped four Manhattanville shots.

Harrison Yoguez recorded three of the Valiants' four goals, and Sean Larkin posted two assists to go along with four ground balls.  Nick Padovani led Manhattanville with eight ground balls, while Nolan Nye had four caused turnovers.  Manhattanville goalkeeper Jason Frezza (2-8) took the loss after making nine saves in 45 minutes.  Cody Johnston played the fourth quarter and saved three shots.

The Privateers return home on Saturday, when they welcome St. Joseph's LI (4-4, 1-1 Skyline) to Reinhart Field at 1 p.m.  It will be the first meeting between the teams since Maritime's 8-7 victory in last season's Skyline Conference semifinals.
