Nicolosi Sets Record as Privateers Rout Mitchell

NEW LONDON, CT – Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) set a Maritime College women's lacrosse single-game record with 13 points on Tuesday afternoon.  She scored seven goals and added six assists, as the Privateers (7-0) cruised to a 22-2 victory over Mitchell (1-6) at Alumni Field.

Nicolosi had seven points in the first quarter alone and 10 at halftime.  She then registered three second-half points to break Krista Devela's school record.  Devela recorded 11 points twice during the 2019 season.

Maritime jumped on Mitchell early, opening up an 8-1 advantage midway through the first quarter and led 12-2 at the end of the period.  Nicolosi tallied three of the Privateers' five second-quarter goals, as Maritime extended its cushion to 17-2 at the break.  The Privateers held the Mariners scoreless in the second half to close out the 22-2 triumph and continue the best start in program history.

Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY) notched seven points of her own on four goals and three assists.  She also picked up four ground balls.  Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton-on-Hudson, NY) finished with three goals and two assists, while Sara Wright (East Islip, NY) recorded three goals and an assist to go along with 15 draw controls, one shy of the program mark.

Tori Gay (Whiteford, MD) contributed two goals, seven draw controls and five ground balls.  Mackenzie Fabiani (Bayport, NY) also posted two goals, and Giavonna DiToma (North Syracuse, NY) scored for the first time in her collegiate career.  Kathryn Sanford (Floral Park, NY), meanwhile, picked up a game-high six ground balls.  Liz Pomaro (Farmingville, NY) and Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NY) split time in goal, with Pomaro (7-0) earning the win.

Mitchell's goals were scored by Jessica Krupnikoff and Daniella Holland.  Krupnikoff also caused three turnovers.  Kathryn Barillaro, meanwhile, paced the Mariners with three ground balls.  Goalkeeper Hannah Gomes (0-3) made eight saves in a losing effort.

This was Maritime's final non-conference game of the season.  The Privateers (1-0 Skyline) resume their Skyline Conference slate by hosting St. Joseph's LI (0-3, 0-0 Skyline) at 6 p.m. on Friday.
