Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Maritime Upended By Kean

UNION, NJ – On Wednesday night, the Maritime College men's lacrosse team continued its road trip with a visit to Kean.  In a matchup between teams that qualified for last season's NCAA Tournament, the Cougars (4-1) came out on top, notching a 15-10 victory over the Privateers (2-6) at Kean Alumni Stadium.

After Kean got on the board first, John Killcommons (Garden City, NY) evened the score less than a minute later.  However, the Cougars ended the first quarter on a 4-0 spurt to take a 5-1 lead.  Kyle Orton (Lewes, DE) cut Kean's advantage to 5-2 early in the second quarter before the Cougars scored two more to take a 7-2 cushion into the halftime break.

Maritime outscored Kean 3-2 in the third quarter, including a man-down tally by Patrick Schnell (Jericho, NY), to pull within 9-5.  The Cougars registered three goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, though, to extend the margin to 12-5.  After Kean opened up a 15-8 cushion, the Privateers notched a pair of late goals to cap the scoring.

Killcommons tallied four points for Maritime, finishing with three goals and an assist.  Orton also had a hat trick, while Schnell contributed two goals and an assist.  Joe Kiernan (Northport, NY) led the Privateers with six ground balls.  Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY) (2-6), meanwhile, recorded 16 saves in a losing effort.

For the Cougars, Brady Moore led the way with six goals and Connor Batjer added three tallies.  Nick Moffa collected 11 ground balls, as Kean held a 41-29 advantage in that category.  Kean goalkeeper Thomas Francy (2-0) made 12 saves.

The Privateers will now have more than a week off before returning to action.  Maritime's originally-scheduled contest at FDU-Florham next Wednesday night has been cancelled, so the Privateers' next game will now be a 2 p.m. matchup at Trinity (3-2) on Saturday, April 2.
