THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College women's lacrosse team opened its Skyline Conference schedule by hosting Mount St. Vincent on Wednesday night. Three different Privateers scored five goals in the game, as Maritime (5-0, 1-0 Skyline) earned a 21-5 victory over the Dolphins (2-2, 0-1 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.
Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY) finished with five goals and four assists, while also recording nine draw controls.
Sara Wright (East Islip, NY) contributed five goals and two assists, and
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) had five goals and an assist.
Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton-on-Hudson, NY) added seven points on four goals and three assists.
Tori Gay (Whiteford, MD) scored the other two Maritime goals to go along with three ground balls, three draw controls and an assist.
Anya Josberger (Coxsackie, NY) recorded her first point of the season, an assist, and picked up three ground balls. Goalkeeper
Liz Pomaro (Farmingville, NY) (5-0) earned the win after making six saves over the first 45 minutes.
Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ) posted three saves in the fourth quarter.
Maritime scored three times in 83 seconds to open up an early 3-0 lead. The Privateers held a 6-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter and extended that cushion to 9-2 midway through the second period.
After a goal by Mount St. Vincent's Colleen MacNeil at the 6:03 mark of the second quarter, the Privateers held the Dolphins scoreless for more than 30 minutes. Maritime outscored Mount St. Vincent 11-0 during that span to increase its lead to 20-3. The Dolphins responded with back-to-back tallies before Wright closed out the scoring in the Privateers' 21-5 triumph.
MacNeil was involved in four of Mount St. Vincent's five goals, scoring three times while also notching an assist. She also tallied six draw controls. Alicia Rodriguez had six draw controls, as well. Macey Forg (2-2) made seven saves and collected a team-high three ground balls.
On Friday night, Maritime concludes its four-game homestand with a 6 p.m. matchup against Ramapo (1-4) at Reinhart Field. It will be the first of four consecutive Friday night home contests for the Privateers.
